BOISE, Idaho. (AP) – An arrest warrant has been issued for a former Idaho lawmaker who resigned in disgrace after a 19-year-old intern reported he took her to his apartment under false pretenses and raped her.
Ada County’s arrest warrant for rape and sexual penetration with a foreign object comes nearly five months after Aaron von Ehlinger, a Republican from Lewiston, resigned from the Idaho House of Representatives after he an ethics committee has ruled that he should be formally censored for his behavior.
The investigation into von Ehlinger began in March after the young staff member reported raping her after the two had dinner at a restaurant in Boise. Von Ehlinger has denied any wrongdoing and claims to have had consensual sexual contact with the young woman.
A legislative ethics committee unanimously concluded he had engaged in “improper behavior” and said it would support a vote to remove him from the Statehouse.
The woman informed lawmakers and police of the rape allegations on her first day of work after the incident. She also testified before the Legislative Ethics Committee, despite harassment from supporters of von Ehlinger and some fellow lawmakers.
Attempts to contact von Ehlinger for comment were not immediately successful.
Earlier this month, lawyer Erika Birch filed a tort claim with the state on behalf of the woman, which is the first step in filing a complaint, according to an article on the show. local public television station Idaho Reports.
