Unmissable Acres Homes Burn the original barbecue conquers Houston one Kroger at a time. The barbecue will celebrate the official opening of its third Bistro this Saturday, September 3 at the Kroger location at 2700 W Grand Pkwy N.
Burns already has similar locations in the Summerwood neighborhood of Pearland and Humble. Co-owner Cory Crawford told CultureMap the restaurant selected these locations based on sales data and customer feedback during a pop-up tour the restaurant conducted in 2020.
By parking a food truck in the grocery store parking lot, the new location is able to serve an identical menu to the restaurant, meaning diners can expect their favorite stuffed potatoes, ribs and other Burns classics.
“We love the brand. We like to take it from Acres Homes – next year it will be 50,” says Crawford. “It was time to spread our wings and bring Burns Original BBQ to more parts of the city.”
The original location has gained considerable fame. Author and TV personality Anthony Bourdain featured it in a 2016 episode of his CNN series Unknown parts. Crawford says the restaurant still sees a steady stream of customers who saw him on the show.
The opening of the new Bistro strengthens Burns’ ties with Kroger. Two years ago, the grocery store provided the restaurant with a place to sell its dishes when the restaurants were closed for dinner due to the pandemic. Subsequently, the store began selling the restaurant’s barbecue sauce, which is now available in more than 20 stores. Expect more Burns Bistros in the future.
“We don’t have a specific target, but we’ve had a few conversations with Kroger. The partnership has been amazing. They tell us about as much as we can grow with us,” Crawford says.
“We have these internal meetings. This is the last for 2022, but in 2023 I can say there will definitely be more.
