Finally, a new restaurant will replace the closed Cafe Express in Dallas

A new American restaurant named The Finch is slated to open at Mockingbird Station in Dallas, where Cafe Express has served fast, casual food for nearly 20 years.

The space, located at a busy corner of Mockingbird Lane and the Central Freeway, has been vacant for about three years. It is a fairly emblematic place that Dallas Morning News readers have often asked me: will anyone ever move into the old Café Express? Finally, the answer is yes.

The Finch’s menu is described as ‘bold’ and ‘wide’, with dishes like seafood, soup, salad, pizza, pasta and entrees like mushroom risotto and sea bass. cioppino.

The restaurant originates from a company called Milkshake Concepts, which began its culinary history in 2015 in Deep Ellum. He operates Vidorra, Stirr, SkyRocket Burger, a remade Serious Pizza and the new Harper’s, all in Deep Ellum. The company also recently moved its nightclub named Citizen from Uptown to Deep Ellum. This is one of the few bars to create a new nightlife identity in a neighborhood of Dallas with no real name.

Outside of Dallas, the group owns several restaurants in Addison and Fort Worth. And in 2022, co-founder and CEO Imran Sheikh plans to open new restaurants in Grand Prairie, including a second Finch.

The Finch Restaurant at Mockingbird Station will help Sheikh and his team reach another area of North Texas: Lakewood and Highland Park.

The Finch is slated to open in spring 2022.

We recently reported that Trinity Hall, an Irish pub and longtime tenant of Mockingbird Station, closed at the end of August.

The Finch will be at 5307 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas (at Mockingbird Station).

About 12 weeks after Dallas' Trinity Hall reopened amid the coronavirus pandemic in 2021, it closed permanently. Here is the story of its beginning, its end and the pints shared between the two.
