Juan Rivera’s Tex-Mex Food Trailer Makes A Name In Hooks, TX

HOOKS, Texas – In a crisp red and white trailer kitchen paired with an airy alfresco dining area, El Rey offers a range of premium Tex-Mex fare. For about five years, owner Juan Rivera says this is the culmination of his knowledge and experience in the restaurant business.

“I moved to Texarkana in 2016 with my family,” he said. “When I was there, I worked in a series of restaurants as a chef, honing my knowledge. Eventually, I reached the point where I was ready to take the next step, and this stage was El Rey. “

El Rey is located at an intersection just outside the main entrance to the Red River Army Depot. Rivera chose the location carefully, considering both the flow of traffic along the main thoroughfare, the main thoroughfare running east to west, and traffic to and from I-30 towards RRAD.

“TexAmericas Center is nearby and growing,” he said. “The potential of the clientele continues to grow. And right now, we already have a huge volume of business. It’s just crazy trying to keep up with all of this. “

Rivera describes what El Rey does as Tex-Mex, it hasn’t always been that way.

“We started doing Mexican only, but our customers prefer the Tex-Mex flavors,” he said.

El Rey’s menu features a range of burritos, enchiladas, tacos and more. They even have a Tex-Mex breakfast menu for the early birds.

Ultimately, they want to have a closed dining room, but for those who want to hang out and eat, the lodge dining room in good weather is a comfortable dining experience.

(El Rey is located at 1429 8th Ave., Hooks, TX.)
