Mexican chain Chuy’s opens first New Braunfels restaurant

When Chuy’s first opened at an old abandoned Texas barbecue restaurant in Austin, there were only 60 seats.

Now, decades later, founders Mike Young and John Zapp’s vision for a fun and funky Tex-Mex restaurant has enough locations for 17 states and a dozen cities in Texas.

Its last location will be in New Braunfels, according to a file from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Construction is scheduled to start on April 25.

The $ 2.1 million project is slated for the southwest quadrant of Interstate 35 and FM 306. The 6,630 square foot building is expected to be completed in November.

The New Braunfels restaurant will be Chuy’s first in Comal County. There are four restaurants in San Antonio and one in San Marcos.
