Refreshing drinks and spring menus liven up this foodie news in Dallas

Everything about this Dallas restaurant news roundup looks fresh. There are spring menus, new brunches, and loads of refreshing new drinks on the market.

Salad and go, a chain that makes salad-and-drive-thru, opened its first Texas location in Plano on May 5, with plans for four more DFW locations in 2021. The menu includes salads, wraps, and breakfast burritos , soup, lemonades, organic tea and brew. Salads and wraps cost $ 5.74 and include chicken or tofu; steak or shrimp cost extra. Basic items include Cobb, Caesar, and BBQ Ranch.

Pizzeria and Wine Shop in Olivella is the new name for Olivella’s, the Neapolitan-style pizza chain, to reflect its expanded wine list, new retail wine store and wine club. The dinner wine list now includes 50 wines from around the world, including Italy, France, California, Oregon, South America and Washington State. The Wine Club offers its members three wines per month, on a theme such as women winegrowers. The new development to launch a wine shop and wine club was led by Simon Holguin, Olivella’s second level sommelier.

Mendocino Farms has two new spring / summer menu items available through September 14: Poke ‘Watermelon Salad, a fresh vegan version of poke made with watermelon, cucumbers, edamame, daikon and pickled carrots, l avocado, green onions and cilantro, on napa cabbage and kale salad, carrots, bean sprouts, baby spinach, togarashi rice, black sesame seeds and vegan sriracha mayo in a honey and ginger ponzu vinaigrette; and Summer Street Corn Sandwich with al pastor chicken, street corn, poblano rajas and onion, pickled red onions, tomatoes, romaine, cilantro and salsa verde jalapeno on a toasted sesame roll. They are available in downtown Dallas at 2000 Ross Ave. and in Addison at 5294 Belt Line Rd. in Dallas.

Asador, the restaurant at the Renaissance hotel, brings back weekend brunch, with a menu from new executive chef Joe Graffeo that includes crab cake sliders on Hawaiian buns, Tahitian vanilla French toast with lemon curd and blueberry syrup, fried chicken and buttermilk cheddar cookies with sausage sauce and breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon, tomato, cheddar cheese, honey mustard aioli and avocado on brown Texas toast. Mimosas are $ 3 and Bloody Marys are $ 4. Served Saturday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Brio Italian grill debuts Sunday Brunch for Food Service at its Allen and Southlake locations. The menu offers main courses, sides, and featured cocktails with an Italian twist, including scrambled eggs and bacon with potatoes and brioche toast; berries stuffed with cream cheese and French toast cream with bacon; and beef tenderloin, poached eggs, Romano and Dutch crusted tomatoes. Cocktails include spicy Bloody Mary, frozen peach bellini, and Prosecco and OJ mimosa. It is served until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Ellie Restaurant and Lounge, the restaurant at the Hall Arts Hotel, offers new spring menus from Chef Dan Landsberg. There are scallops with carrot risotto, spring peas and carrot chimichurri; and lamb marinated in harissa with mashed sweet potatoes, hearts of palm, pearl red onions, heirloom tomato sumac and Kalamata olive crumble. Lunch is also back with an almond chicken salad with a nest of arugula and homemade Gruyere crackers; and BLAT with smoked bacon, golden tomato jam, avocado, onion, pea sprouts and sourdough. They are open for breakfast during the week serving migas with black bean refrito and crab roe benedict; and brunch, with products such as vanilla pancakes with yogurt, banana, berries, pistachio.

Pizza Cicis added a giant pizza to their menu that they say is big enough to feed the whole family. Prices start at $ 11 for a giant pizza with a topping, more for specialty recipes like mac and cheese, spinach alfredo, or Buffalo chicken.

Cowboy Chicken launched a new Trail Boss sandwich featuring a breaded, rotisserie-baked, then deep-fried chicken breast, with lettuce, mayonnaise, pickles and ranch dressing. There’s also a version of Buffalo Chicken, mixed in a tangy Buffalo sauce, with lettuce, tomato, and a choice of ranch or blue cheese. This is a limited time offer available until July 4th.

Pollo Campero launched chicken nuggets, which they oddly call Camperitos, available in a six- or nine-chef meal, in sauce or with a dip, along with a choice of side and tortilla or bun. To celebrate the launch, they are also presenting two sauces – Avocado Ranch and Frank’s RedHot Sweet Chili – available until May 26.

Skinny Fat in the West Village has two new burgers: The Cherry Popper is a half-pound beef patty with fried egg, bell pepper, spicy coleslaw and pepper marmalade on a Hawaiian roll. Cranburkey is a turkey patty with arugula, tomato, onion and cranberry yogurt on a wheat bun.

Cotton Patch Coffee brought back its “2 for $ 18” meal offer that included two chicken fried steak entrees, each with two sides. It is available until June.

Maple Leaf Dinner in North Dallas has a poutine of the month for May: the Buffalo Chicken Ranch with buffalo chicken, smothered on a ranch, for $ 11.

Sprinkle with chocolate is Sprinkles Cupcakes foray into the world of boxed chocolates. Four flavors mimic their best-selling cupcakes: Sprinkle is Belgian white chocolate with unparalleled colorful sprinkles. Red Velvet is a milk and white chocolate. Black & White is a dark chocolate covered with white chocolate and garnished with chocolate chips. They are really cute because they are round like a cupcake. They weigh 3 ounces and cost $ 7 each and are available at their Preston Center and Plano branches.

Truluck features a colorful, limited-edition dessert called Fruity Pebble Cheesecake, a New York-style cheesecake made with a vanilla wafer crust, filled with fruity pebbles and topped with a melted ice cream sauce. Available until May 31.

I like the juice bar launched three eye-catching limited edition smoothie flavors that are a half-and-half blend of two smoothies made with fresh fruits and vegetables and superfoods such as majik blue spirulina and pitaya. Coconut Pitaya has apple juice, lemon, coconut cream and pineapple, topped with pitaya powder and beet juice. Tropical blue gets its name and shade from majik blue and blueberries on a base of apple, lemon, mint and pineapple juice. Citrus Sunshine recalls Juice Bar’s Orange You Smooth and Mint to Be smoothies that were retired earlier this year; they have ginger, mango and carrot. They are available until August 8 in all locations: Allen, Dallas, Hillcrest Village, Flower Mound, Lakewood and McKinney.

Lone River Ranch Water has a new flavor: Prickly pear. They also introduced a new 19.2 ounce and a new Variety 12-Pack.

Starbucks has a new Frappuccino flavor: Strawberry Funnel Cake, with pieces of funnel cake and mashed strawberries. They also brought back the Unicorn Cake Pop. We have to get back to normal if we can kiss the unicorns again. Customers can continue to enjoy Caramel Ribbon Crunch and Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccinos Crumble, as well as colorful Starbucks Refreshers drinks including Dragon Drink, Pink Drink, Mango Dragonfruit Starbuck Refreshers, and Strawberry Açaí Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers. So refreshing.

DQ has two new blizzards for the summer: the brownie batter blizzard with a soft vanilla portion, brownie batter, and pieces of chewy brownie batter; and The Drumstick with Peanuts Blizzard, with pieces of Drumstick chocolate coated waffles and chopped peanuts mixed in a soft serving.

King smoothie, the Dallas-based smoothie company, has teamed up with the Dallas Cowboys as the official smoothie of the NFL franchise. Smoothie King will work with Dallas Cowboys nutritionists to create a personalized smoothie especially for Cowboys fans.

Beyond meat gives Walmart shoppers a chance to sample the latest iteration of the Beyond Burger and the Beyond Sausage. Only Walmart shoppers in Southern California and Dallas will receive a tour of the Beyond Meat food truck, which will appear in the parking lot of these neighborhood stores.

Freebirds World Burrito unveiled an updated interior and exterior design rolled out at all 55 Texas locations. New interior elements include murals and colors inspired by Freebirds’ Texan heritage. Guests are greeted by a large “It’s Your World” sign against a blue sky with fluffy white clouds.

Luck springs, an Austin brewer, is launching his sparkling hard lemonade and hard tea on May 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Toller Patio. The range is available in four flavors: peach, raspberry, lemonade and half and half. It is on sale in packs of six and 12.

Natural light has a new sour seltzer variety pack in four flavors: watermelon, green apple, blue raspberry and lemon. Their existing flavors including Mango Peach, Black Cherry Lime, Strawberry Kiwi, and Strawberry Lemonade.

Chick-fil-A DFW area restaurants are offering a free trial of their new Sunjoy drink, which combines sweet iced tea with lemonade. Customers must access the offer through the Chick-fil-A app and use their free Sunjoy during restaurant opening hours. The freebie runs May 17-29.
