SSCP Appoints Deborah Hinson President of Division Roy

Multi-concept operator SSCP Management Inc. has named Deborah Hinson as president of its restaurant division Roy’s, the company announced Friday.

Dallas-based SSCP, which franchises Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, Sonic Drive-Ins, and Cicis Pizza, through an affiliate, purchased Roy’s Hawaiian-Japanese fusion concept from Bloomin’ Brands Inc. in 2015, when it had 29 units.

SSCP said it made Hinson, left, a longtime brand marketing consultant and founder of The Hinson Group LLC, based in New Orleans, Louisiana, a financial partner of the Roy’s brand.

Roy’s has units in three states: Phoenix, Arizona; Anaheim and San Diego, CA; and Bonita Springs, Florida.

“Deb will be instrumental in reinventing the Roy’s concept and the breath of fresh air she brings is welcomed by our beloved brand,” Sunil Dharod, founder of SSCP, said in a statement. “His energy, his spirit and his rolled up attitude will be very useful to us. She is the perfect person to take Roy’s forward.

Hinson said, “Roy’s has always been a different brand – something special, something memorable – and SSCP is doing everything it can to amplify that differentiation through positive leadership and service.”

Roy’s was founded by chef Roy Yamaguchi in 1988 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tampa, Fla.-based Bloomin’ Brands bought it in 2000.

SSCP Management was created by Dharod, a Dallas businessman and philanthropist. SSCP remains a family business, headed by Sunil Dharod and comprising his son, SSCP Chairman Chris Dharod, and daughter, Puja, director and company director.
