San Antonio Tex-Mex chain taco shack gives people what they want: all the flavors of the margarita, served all year round.
According to a statement, the company is calling the dibs on the title of Margarita Headquarters fearing 12 permanent margarita flavors on the menu, each available for $3, all day.
Flavors available will include their classic Lime, Strawberry, Mango, Strawberry Mango and Mangonada flavors, as well as five flavors introduced as previous limited edition offerings and two new flavors:
- Blue curaçao * back
- Watermelon * back
- Dragon fruit * back
- Blood orange * back
- Green apple * back
- Coconut *NEW
- Pineapple *NEW
The decision comes after three launches of the company’s popular limited-edition “MargaritaPalooza” over the past two years, which CultureMap has carefully documented, with the kind of diligence that margarita news deserves.
Taco Cabana first launched the limited-time promotion in July 2020. The “chatterbox” at the time was the original flavor of Dr Pepper. According catering companythe promotion generated “record margarita sales”, making it a positive story during the darkest days of the pandemic, when positive stories were rare.
Not content to leave pretty much alone, they retired six of the original twelve flavors in August 2020, to make way for the six new flavors that were coming. This was ultimately a good thing since three of the new flavors were deliciously authentic: chamoy pineapple, spicy guava, and best of all, tamarind.
They returned in April 2021 with a third round, this time with ultra-creative flavors such as Pickle, Violet and Pistachio.
Taco Cabana COO Ulyses Camacho said in a statement that Margaritapalooza was a game-changer for the company.
“There was so much fun and excitement for guests and team members when we previously ran it on the TC system,” Camacho said. “We pride ourselves on listening to what our customers want, and they’ve always asked us for continuous, daily margarita innovation and variety, not just at certain times of the year. We’re now excited to establishing ourselves as the ‘Margarita Headquarters’ with so many margarita flavors for our customers to choose from every day.”
In addition to the 12 margarita flavors, a rotating 13th flavor will also be available seasonally for $4. Previous seasonal margarita offerings have included flavors like Pickle, Pumpkin Spice and Cherry.
New or returning seasonal margaritas will be announced on an ongoing basis. Maybe tamarind, Taco Cabana? And the tamarind?
Margarita’s headquarters will launch first in San Antonio on Wednesday, July 20, followed by various locations across Texas on Wednesday, August 3.
They will also be offering a summer happy hour Sunday through Thursday from 4-7 p.m. with $2 lime or strawberry margaritas, $2 local beer, half-price bean and cheese nachos, $1.50 $ bean and cheese chalupa and $1 bean and cheese tacos. It will start in San Antonio and eventually go through Texas as well.
And they’re bringing back their beloved salsa bar, featuring Roja, Fuego, Salsa Ranch, Taco Cabana’s new Salsa Verde, Pico de Gallo, and pickled jalapeños, which have been closed during the pandemic.
