The new Tex-Mex restaurant is coming to South College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The town of College Station has grown at a rapid pace, adding several new commercial and residential spaces to the community. Gringo’s Mexican Foodthe latest restaurant chain to call College Station home, opens on Tuesday.

The Houston-based restaurant chain held a soft opening on July 18 at its new location in South College Station. Of Gringo’s other 14 locations, this is the first restaurant they’ve chosen in a city outside of Houston.

Gringo bought the land near Highway 6 nine years ago, when the area around it wasn’t as developed as it is today.

Heather McKeon, Gringo’s Marketing Director, said that when they purchased the land in 2009, it was their 12th Gringo location. She said they wanted the College Station location to be their 12th to Texas A&M University and the 12th man.

“The community here at College Station is undeniably infectious,” McKeon said. “We knew if we had to go anywhere other than Houston it had to be College Station and we’re so glad we were open. Watching how this city has grown over the years has been great.

McKeon said the July 19 opening is a long time coming and the Gringo staff are honored to be involved in the community.

“It was one of those things where timing is everything to us. So we sat on the property and really watched the community build around it,” McKeon said. “Then it was like, okay. He built himself. It is time for us to build ourselves.

Gringo’s is fully open to the public on July 19 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

They are located at 4300 Texas 6 Frontage Rd, College Station, TX 77845.
