We’re hiring an Eater editor in Houston


Eater is seeking an experienced Journalist and Editor to oversee Eater Houston, one of its flagship publications. The person in this role will have a keen sense of the culture of Houston and the surrounding area, the communities that weave its unique fabric, and how social issues intersect with the restaurant, food and bar industries. . They will be eager to be on the pitch, telling the stories of the people who make Houston’s food scene interesting and unforgettable. This publisher will also care about new businesses and those that have demonstrated longevity and resilience over decades.

The editor of Eater Houston will guide the site’s daily coverage and overall sensibility, including its mix of topical articles, service-oriented maps and guides, and short articles. The publisher is responsible for audience growth and engagement, as well as impact and relevance in the community; stories shouldn’t all focus on one area or topic – the editor should have the range to cover the bar and hospitality industries, COVID policy changes, as well as work and justice stories social. The role also includes the assignment, editing and packaging of independent parts; appropriate highly tactile service cards such as the Eater 38; and planning / strategy development for social media and the Eater Houston newsletter.
